The Taylor Difference
As a truly custom cabinet maker, Taylor Cabinets & Design offers an unlimited flexibility of in-house designs door styles and materials. Our impeccable craftsmanship, service and attention to detail are comparable to none. We believe in doing it right the very first time and have built our reputation on straightforward, honest business practices and completely satisfied customers... no exceptions!
As the owner, I personally meet and work directly with you the homeowner, to create cabinetry which best meet your needs and budget. With the help of computer aided design (CAD), you will have a visual look and clear understanding of your project before it is even built. My team will also coordinate and manage all aspects of your project from top to bottom - floor to ceiling. That means, any plumbing, electrical, drywall, paint as well as counter tops and flooring, will all be managed by us.
As we approach our 37th anniversary in business, my wife Gina and I look forward to our continued growth. Since the majority of our business comes from recommendations and referrals made by our customers, it is our ultimate goal and in our best interest to make sure you are absolutely satisfied.
What makes our cabinets different?
Not all cabinets are created equal, especially those coming from over seas. Anyway, there are 2 basic styles and construction techniques used to build cabinets these days. You have Face frame and Frameless. At Taylor Cabinets & Design, we prefer to build premium face frame style cabinetry because of its obvious strength and quality characteristics. Basically, face frame construction utilizes a solid ¾" thick (wood of your choice) frame which is attached to each cabinet box. As a result, door hinges / drawer slides are directly attached to solid wood material. Frameless construction on the other hand is just that - frame-less. Which means, instead of a solid wood frame, a veneer tape is glued to the exposed edges of the cabinet face. As a result, your hinges are not mounted to a solid material.
In addition, our construction technique in which we build the actual cabinet box is much different than how a frameless box would be constructed. Frameless cabinets are joined together using a butt joint and usually held together with dowels, screws and or nails. This makes for a rather weak joint. However, our premium face frame cabinets are constructed using old fashion joinery methods such as dado's, dove tails and rabbets. After you compare the two methods it's unarguably obvious which is the stronger of the two techniques.
Note: Face frame and Dado constructed boxes are not synonymous. Face frames can be attached to butt jointed boxes too. Ask your builder to verify construction method.
Project Timeline
How long will it take? This will vary from job to job due to the complexities of each project. But to give you some basic idea, please continue reading below:
We will typically leave your existing kitchen intact for as long as possible to minimize your kitchen downtime and only begin demolition i.e. removal when your new cabinets are close to ready.
Construction of your cabinetry usually takes 4-6 weeks depending on the scale of project. Once we near completion of your cabinets we pick the demolition date of your existing cabinetry and schedule all the necessary trades. I personally manage and schedule everything, keeping in mind your busy schedule.
When we arrive, the proposed area will be walled off and sealed with plastic to avoid dust and debris from entering your living area. All demolition debris is hauled away and the area completely swept and vacuumed before we leave . I promise a clean area when you get home each day because there is nothing more disappointing than coming home to a mess. As soon as your old cabinets are removed, I bring in the necessary licensed contractors to handle the various projects as needed, (i.e. plumbing relocations, electrical relocations, new lighting, drywall repair, painting etc...). All this is usually handled in a few days time.
Finally, it's time to install your new cabinets, moldings and finish to the cabinetry, (i.e. paint or stain). As soon as the cabinets are in place, counter top templates are produced and fabrication begins. Installation of your new tops will take place 5-7 days later. As soon as tops are in we can begin with your backsplash design and installation. This will usually take another few days time. Next is flooring, which I prefer to have installed last. This prevents unnecessary damage to the new floor finish. Lastly, it's time to install your door & drawer pulls, appliances and plumbing fixtures.
Unlike other contractors, we only take on enough work to maintain our impeccable record of timeliness. Again, our goal is to minimize down time, be completely finished and have you back in your kitchen in 3-5 weeks time. I encourage you to check our references for verification.
If this all sounds appealing and your not bored to death with all this reading, please give me a call to set up your free in home appointment. I look forward to meeting with you and hopefully having you join our extensive family of satisfied customers.
Sincerely,
Jeff A Taylor
